JOHANNESBURG – It’s been dubbed the silent killer by those in the health fraternity and South Africa has the highest prevalence of the non-communicable disease on the continent.
Diabetes has been the leading cause of death in the country since 2019.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, an estimated 4.3 million people are living with the condition.
It can be treated and prevented, according to the Chair of the SA Diabetes Alliance Dr Patrick Piotie.
These were some of the findings of the Diabetes Summit Report and Recommendations, which he recently presented to the National Department of Health.
